Year 2 - Institutional Engagement (Oregon Institute of Technology)

Institutional Objectives - Outcome to be achieved

A: Define the process and timeline of general education review, informed by the wide body of knowledge available on the topic.

B: Engage in a university wide dialogue on general education.

C: Obtain a clear picture of where and how particular competencies are expected, enhanced or assessed.

Processes - How outcome will be achieved

A: The General Education Review Committee begins this work by conducting an extensive literature review. Seeking best practices to define the process.

B: Solicit input from campus constituents through focus groups and surveys. Provide regular progress reports to a wide variety of campus groups.

C: Curricular mapping of general education course outcomes to the Institutional Student Learning Outcomes (ISLOs) and DQP outcomes, to assess the coherence of the curriculum.

A: April 2013--Committee begins discussion
April-September 2013--Literature review
June 2013--Identify practical outcomes and draft timeline
September 2013--Create detailed plan for work to be completed in 2013-14

B: Fall 2013--Focus groups with faculty and staff
Winter 2013--Survey of current students
September 2013-May 2014--Regular reports to various campus committees

C: January-February 2014--General education faculty from the five content areas (math, communication, humanities, science, social science) will form groups of teaching faculty to map course level outcomes to the ISLOs and the DQP.

Year 2 - Horizontal Alignment (Oregon Institute of Technology)

Institutional Objectives - Outcome to be achieved

A: Obtain a clear picture of where and how particular competencies are expected, enhanced or assessed in the Applied Psychology program.

B: Participate in state and national alignment initiatives.

C: Focus on assessment of critical thinking within the various disciplines.

Processes - How outcome will be achieved

A: Curricular mapping of required course outcomes to the DQP outcomes to define outcomes in the Applied Psychology program.

B: Attendance at alignment meetings and participation in NILOA assignment alignment project.


C: Provide faculty professional development focused on creation of assignments aligned with criteria defined at the institutional level. Administer assessments in upper division courses in each program. Review results and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
